Singles Day has been celebrated since 1993, as a sort of anti-Valentine’s Day. Some students in China who came up with the idea of celebrating all singles. It quickly became a shopping day where you treated yourself with something nice.

Singles Day always falls on 11th November because the number 1 resembles a ´bare stick´, which is Chinese slang for a lonely man, and the date 11/11 represents four single people standing together.
